Haute Humber Experience

Hey everyone, so today’s blog post is detailing the fashion show I got the chance to go to on Tuesday (the 10th) called Haute Humber! First of all, let me just say how proud I am of my school for organizing this event and incorporating so many different programs to make this happen. We had second year Fashion students in charge of organizing the whole event and I was blown away at the production! Such a cool night.

JoesephTassoni

So first up was Joeseph Tassoni with his entirely red collection. This falls in line with his authentic Canadian production method, with all pieces being made and sourced in Canada. This helps him put out the best quality products that will last a lifetime, and help support the Canadian economy. I love this idea because this means there is no offshore sourcing happening within this brand, and you have heard me mention the horror stories behind offshore sourcing before. I think that Joeseph Tassoni embodies Canadian design and is helping us all realize that Canadian production is the way to go, and something to be proud of. The collection was beautiful my favourite look being the finale, with the hood, and gorgeous luminous satin material. She looked like a chic Canadian little red riding hood/bride.

Xian

Next up was Xian. I really enjoyed this show because it was incorporating the streetwear, loungewear aesthetic we see so much of today. I felt that all his pieces were very well constructed and would be a total hit for millennial men today (even women). All the pieces were simple, yet had a structural element to them as well. One of my favourite looks was the ultra-long white button up. It takes a closet staple and puts a new, modern twist on it. Overall loved the collection and will for sure be keeping a close eye on this brand.

Angela Demontigny

Next, we have Angela, who is the queen of leathers and animal skins. Her collection was outstanding displaying slinky, fringy leather dresses. To be honest it really changed my perspective when it comes to working with leather, it doesn’t always have to be stiff, or manly. Another amazing part about this designer is she incorporates her Indigenous history into her designs. She does this in a modern and tasteful way which can be hard to do. She blends current trends with the age-old stories from the original founders of this beautiful country. My favourite look was the metallic blazer dress, totally something I would buy.

Strauss

Next we have Strauss, a concept created by Stars Men’s Shops. Even though the Strauss extension came in 2011, this brand has been going since 1943. This brand definitely knows what they are doing, and put out a very nice and clean collection. Showing their beautifully constructed suits in bright spring colours perfect for a fashion forward man today. One of my favourite looks was the muted yellow suit jacket paired with the navy pants, I thought it was such a nice colour combo for this season.

Medjy-MemeCollection

Next, we have a Humber alumni, Medjy. I have seen some of her work before and was excited to see what she was going to show us this time. As usual I was very impressed, Medjy creates looks that empower women to feel beautiful and strong with her classic bright patterns. Not only that, she has given back with her “Back to School Project” focused on providing education for children in Hati. Overall, I loved her collection, and what she stands for. She is an inspiration to young fashion students like me, she gives us an image to look up to and strive for. My favourite outfit shown was the first look, the nice fitted pencil skirt and matching top (the material looked so comfortable too so extra points for that).

RhowanJames

Next up is Rhowan James, a menswear designer focused on today’s man: “strong, sophisticated, & edgy.” This show was probably one of the most fun to watch because all the pieces were so beautifully made and eye catching. You could tell he took a lot of inspiration from uniforms, and integrated older accessories in a new way. Although the collection was a bit out there for my personal taste (me wearing black every chance I get) I still loved every minute of it. My favourite look was the finale look, the model was dressed in this epic black cape and it just felt like he was controlling the room when he walked down that runway.

 ChristopherPaunil

Last but not least we saw Christopher, and let me tell you I was ready to find a man so I could walk down an aisle in one of his bridal gowns. All the dresses were breathtaking and I wish I had an occasion for every single one. He seems to really know how to flatter a woman’s shape with all the dresses fitting the models to a t. You can tell he puts his heart and soul into his designs which is so amazing and inspiring to see. My favourite dress was the second bridal dress with the fitted top (it almost looked like a corset and I love a good corset) with the princess tool bottom, so elegant.

So that’s it everyone, make sure you go check out my video with clips from the show so you can really see how amazing the night was!

History of the Maison Margiela Tabi Boots

Today we are going to be talking about one of my favourite brands being Margiela, and more specifically a product that has been forever on my designer wishlist, the Tabi boot. Now if you guys are unaware of this famous boot, fear not I will explain. At first glance they look like a regular black leather boot, but look closer and you see the unique split toe detail that resembles a hoofed foot. I remember the first time I saw a photo of these, and I was instantly taken back, and if we're being honest a little creeped out. But as I kept seeing them the intrigue grew, and I started to understand why these boots were an iconic Margiela staple. So lets take a peak into how these famous shoes became what they are today. The origin of this tabi design dates back to Japan in the 1400s. Originally they were split toe socks made to be worn with thong sandals, and were made when Japan began importing cotton from China. Marin Margiela first discovered this silhouette while on a trip ...

Swedish brand Eytys and their take on the platform sneaker trend

Hey guys, today’s blog post is going to be on a new brand I have discovered called Eytys . This Swedish based brand is collaborating with many of the top fashion influencers (for example Kailee Mckenzie ) so I figured they were worth checking out. One of their most popularized items I’ve seen is their  Angel shoe (which I am completely obsessed with). The shoe is a play on the platform dad sneaker trend that everyone has been loving this season, but if were being honest who can afford Balenciaga’s Triple S sneakers? Even though the Angel shoe is still at a high price point of $340.00 US, this seems a bit more attainable for those of us not wanting to dish out 900+ for a trend that probably won’t last much longer. Not only is the price more attractive, the versions of this shoe are much more subdued and could remain a classic in your shoe collection. They have 4 different variations of the shoe, one being a black leather pair, the second a tan suede, a...
