PLEASURES: the new streetwear brand on the block

Kurt Cobain's suicide note tee
Obviously, streetwear is a major trend right now featuring sweat suits, graphic tees, and other heavily branded clothing. But with this trend comes a high price tag for seemingly simple (or cheap) pieces, for example paying over $300 for a Supreme shirt without resale inflation. So what do those of us on a budget do in this situation to remain a part of this evolving trend? I might have a solution to your problem, the solution being Pleasures. This new edgy streetwear brand is based in LA and came around in June 2015, since then they have been known for breaking the box of the typical grunge style we see coming back today. Featuring graphics on their Tees that are quite honestly a little disturbing at times, for example: putting Kurt Cobain’s suicide note on a tee, the image of a cigarette put out on a tongue, their Cops Kill T-shirt along with many others. Even though some people might look at this and be skeptical, the creators are just doing what they know. While listening to a podcast with co-founder Alex James, he mentioned that every graphic they put out is like an art project, and he wants to invoke emotion into the clothing. This kind of dedication and thought-provoking design is what the fashion industry needs, and I’m excited to see where this brand goes in the future. Already they have done some major collaborations with brands such as Stance socks (who did a collab with Rihanna) VFiles, and Kuumba (this collab included “pleasures” branded incence). Not only that, they have support from major celebs including The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa, Kylie Jenner and many more. This is just the beginning for this brand and I suggest you check them out for an affordable, and unique take on the streetwear trend.

Check out their Instagram too, they are always posting cool content!

History of the Maison Margiela Tabi Boots

Today we are going to be talking about one of my favourite brands being Margiela, and more specifically a product that has been forever on my designer wishlist, the Tabi boot. Now if you guys are unaware of this famous boot, fear not I will explain. At first glance they look like a regular black leather boot, but look closer and you see the unique split toe detail that resembles a hoofed foot. I remember the first time I saw a photo of these, and I was instantly taken back, and if we're being honest a little creeped out. But as I kept seeing them the intrigue grew, and I started to understand why these boots were an iconic Margiela staple. So lets take a peak into how these famous shoes became what they are today. The origin of this tabi design dates back to Japan in the 1400s. Originally they were split toe socks made to be worn with thong sandals, and were made when Japan began importing cotton from China. Marin Margiela first discovered this silhouette while on a trip ...

Why we need to start shopping Second-Hand

If you guys have gotten the chance to watch my outfits of the week , and personal stylevideo you already know that I love a good piece from the thrift store. As mentioned in my personal style video, going to a second hand, or vintage store can help inspire you to try something that is “one of a kind,” or even a past trend you can make relevant again. Also, who doesn’t love the “hunt” experience gained from thrifting? I don’t know about you guys but sorting through all of the rough to find that one diamond is almost like a high to me. And if you’re in a second-hand store, another bonus is the price. One of my most memorable finds was a $3.00 PVC smiley face backpack I saw on Depop days earlier for $60.00. Granted I don’t do this every time I shop as it can be time consuming. So not only can you find super unique items (as well as classics) to add to wardrobe at good prices, but you are also doing your part to reduce the demand for brand new clothing. A...

Swedish brand Eytys and their take on the platform sneaker trend

Hey guys, today’s blog post is going to be on a new brand I have discovered called Eytys . This Swedish based brand is collaborating with many of the top fashion influencers (for example Kailee Mckenzie ) so I figured they were worth checking out. One of their most popularized items I’ve seen is their  Angel shoe (which I am completely obsessed with). The shoe is a play on the platform dad sneaker trend that everyone has been loving this season, but if were being honest who can afford Balenciaga’s Triple S sneakers? Even though the Angel shoe is still at a high price point of $340.00 US, this seems a bit more attainable for those of us not wanting to dish out 900+ for a trend that probably won’t last much longer. Not only is the price more attractive, the versions of this shoe are much more subdued and could remain a classic in your shoe collection. They have 4 different variations of the shoe, one being a black leather pair, the second a tan suede, a...
