End of Gosha Rubchinskiy as we know it?

Did you guys see this mysterious Instagram  that was uploaded to Gosha Rubchinskiy's page 2 days ago?

We're all thinking what does this mean exactly? Well after some research I've found that answer is quite simple, Rubchinskiy simply doesn't want to have to keep up with putting out seasonal collections.  This isn't exactly a surprise as lots of other brands are beginning to remove themselves from the fashion month circuits for example Vetements, and Alexander Wang. Demna Gvasalia of Vetements saying “The innovative approach reframes product on the month that it ships, rather than the outdated labels of ‘Resort’ or ‘Pre-Fall,’ giving our customers more relevant and consistent merchandise throughout the year.” I think that this is a route many new brands will opt to do, it only makes sense with the rise of social media. Consumers can view fashion shows in live time from their homes, but have to wait months to purchase the items displayed. By that time the big guys like Zara will have already ripped off those designs and the trend won't be as strong.

Gosha Rubchinskiy Fall/Winter 2016

Another reason Rubchinskiy decided to stop the release of seasonal collections is to focus on his other skate wear brand Paccbet. The brand recently did a collaboration Carhartt, and Rubchinskiy is hinting at more collaborations in the future for the brand. But fear not, his self titled brand will not be left in the dust. He simply wants his collections to be project based, even hinting at a womenswear line to come.

What are your thoughts on brands removing themselves from the traditional fashion month circuit?

History of the Maison Margiela Tabi Boots

Today we are going to be talking about one of my favourite brands being Margiela, and more specifically a product that has been forever on my designer wishlist, the Tabi boot. Now if you guys are unaware of this famous boot, fear not I will explain. At first glance they look like a regular black leather boot, but look closer and you see the unique split toe detail that resembles a hoofed foot. I remember the first time I saw a photo of these, and I was instantly taken back, and if we're being honest a little creeped out. But as I kept seeing them the intrigue grew, and I started to understand why these boots were an iconic Margiela staple. So lets take a peak into how these famous shoes became what they are today. The origin of this tabi design dates back to Japan in the 1400s. Originally they were split toe socks made to be worn with thong sandals, and were made when Japan began importing cotton from China. Marin Margiela first discovered this silhouette while on a trip ...

Swedish brand Eytys and their take on the platform sneaker trend

Hey guys, today’s blog post is going to be on a new brand I have discovered called Eytys . This Swedish based brand is collaborating with many of the top fashion influencers (for example Kailee Mckenzie ) so I figured they were worth checking out. One of their most popularized items I’ve seen is their  Angel shoe (which I am completely obsessed with). The shoe is a play on the platform dad sneaker trend that everyone has been loving this season, but if were being honest who can afford Balenciaga’s Triple S sneakers? Even though the Angel shoe is still at a high price point of $340.00 US, this seems a bit more attainable for those of us not wanting to dish out 900+ for a trend that probably won’t last much longer. Not only is the price more attractive, the versions of this shoe are much more subdued and could remain a classic in your shoe collection. They have 4 different variations of the shoe, one being a black leather pair, the second a tan suede, a...

Haute Humber Experience

Hey everyone, so today’s blog post is detailing the fashion show I got the chance to go to on Tuesday (the 10 th ) called Haute Humber! First of all, let me just say how proud I am of my school for organizing this event and incorporating so many different programs to make this happen. We had second year Fashion students in charge of organizing the whole event and I was blown away at the production! Such a cool night. JoesephTassoni So first up was Joeseph Tassoni with his entirely red collection. This falls in line with his authentic Canadian production method, with all pieces being made and sourced in Canada. This helps him put out the best quality products that will last a lifetime, and help support the Canadian economy. I love this idea because this means there is no offshore sourcing happening within this brand, and you have heard me mention the horror stories behind offshore sourcing before. I think that Joeseph Tassoni embodies Canadian design and is helping us all realize...
